What You Can Expect
at Dory Ellen Fish Acupuncture
Dedicated Time
Our clinicians see one patient per hour, ensuring that our session together is never rushed. This unhurried approach allows for the deep listening and presence necessary to foster a true healing relationship and to address the nuances of your health with precision.
A Multi-Sensory Healing Environment
Every session is designed to maximize your comfort and physiological response. To enhance your treatment, we utilize a Far Infrared BioMat on the treatment table. This technology provides deep-penetrating warmth that relaxes the muscles, improves circulation, and calms the nervous system, preparing the body to receive the full benefits of the session.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Acupuncture is one aspect of the ancient system of Chinese Medicine, and is based on the idea that there are meridians, or pathways, that run throughout the body. These meridians are filled with Qi (energy) and other substances. Disease occurs when Qi is not flowing freely. A qualified practitioner inserts fine needles into the body at specific points to regulate and restore the harmonious energetic balance of the body, thus eliminating or reducing symptoms of disease.
-
Acupuncture needles are much thinner than those used by Western medical doctors. Most patients do not even feel the needle going in. We also offer non-needle techniques, such as acupressure, body work, laser, and stone medicine.
-
All needles are sterile, individually packaged, and disposed after single use.
-
Depth of needle insertion depends on the nature of the patient's condition; the location of the points selected; the patient's size, age, and constitution; and the acupuncturist's style of treatment. In the United States, needles are usually inserted 1/4 to 1 inch in depth.
-
The World Health Organization has said that acupuncture is suitable for treating ear, nose, and throat disorders; respiratory disorders; gastrointestinal disorders; eye disorders; and nervous system and musculoskeletal disorders. Acupuncture has also been used for centuries in China and for decades in the United States to treat many other problems, including emotional, gynecological and reproductive, urinary, stress, addiction, and sleep disorders, as well as headaches, repetitive strain injury, and chronic fatigue. Even in cases of persistent or terminal illness, acupuncture can be used to relieve pain and improve quality of life.
-
This depends on the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint. You may need only one or two treatments for an acute condition of recent onset. A series of five to twenty treatments may resolve many chronic problems. Some degenerative conditions may require many treatments over time. Intermittent conditions, such as asthma and seasonal allergies, may need a few treatments at first, with occasional "tune-ups" thereafter. Many patients enjoy acupuncture so much that they come continuously for stress relief, and general balancing and harmonizing treatment.
-
Absolutely not! Chinese medicine is preventative as well as curative. Many people come to enhance or maintain their vitality, and consider it part of a healthy lifestyle.
